Global Human Peace University in Tamil Nadu, India, on Saturday, April 10, honored Mumtaz, a Bangladeshi folk singer and MP. In a message, they mentioned that as an artist, Mumtaz has taken herself to another height by recording more than 600 solo albums, promoting Bengali music to the world for 30 long years and engaging in various activities besides social service. That’s why they awarded him the ‘Doctor of Music’ medal on Saturday through a special ceremony. P Manuel, the founder and chairman of the university, handed over the award to Mumtaz. At the same time, former Chennai District Judge Thiru AJ Muruganantham, Tamil Nadu spiritual guru Khalifa Mastan Saheb Qadiri, Kerala Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Institute of Business Management received honorary doctorates.
Mumtaz flew to India on the morning of April 10 to receive her honorary doctorate degree. After all the formalities, he returned to the country on April 12. Sitting at home in Dhaka, he spoke with Prothom Alo. Expressing the feeling of receiving such an honor, Mumtaz said, “I have been with music for 30 years. I am getting the love of people. Tried to stay by people’s side. Being a people’s representative, I am always close to the people. During this time I have gained many honors. Mumtaz has been working as a professional artist for more than three decades. He has released more than seven hundred solo albums in his music career. In 2000, he sang on the popular show ‘Etc.’ at the invitation of Hanif Sanket. Mohammad Rafiquzzaman sang the song ‘Return Ticket’ to the tune of Sohail Aziz. He then reached out to audiences across the country overnight. Mumtaz was elected as an MP in the tenth parliamentary elections in 2014 with the nomination of Awami League. This artist was elected from Manikganj-2 constituency in 2016. Earlier, in 2009, she was nominated as a Member of Parliament by the Bangladesh Awami League in the reserved women’s seat of the Ninth National Assembly.

In 2007, he established the Mumtaz Children’s and Eye Hospital in his village in Singair. He is the President of Bangladesh Deaf Sports Federation. He has also been working as a goodwill ambassador for the International Organization for Migration since 2010. Mumtaz Begum is a visionary for the international ophthalmology organization Orbis and a brand ambassador for an Australian educational organization.
