BGMEA fears huge losses if half of the workers run the factory

 

BGMEA, an association of garment industry owners, has objected to the government’s directive to run various offices and factories with half the workers in view of the rising incidence of corona. BGMEA President. Rubana Haque sent a letter to the secretary of the labor ministry in this regard, saying that if the factory is to be started with half the manpower, the factories will not be able to ship the goods on time. As a result, it will again face huge financial losses. The BGMEA sent the letter to the labor secretary last Thursday.

The letter indicated that the organization would follow proper hygiene rules, indicating that the factory would be run by full workers instead of half workers. It is said that we have to start the factory by following the health safety guidelines in all the factories keeping in mind the economy of the country.

The letter said that during the first wave of corona, the factories strictly followed the government-made hygiene rules and the infection rate in the sector was less than 0.03 per cent. This hygiene has not been relaxed. Hygiene is being monitored properly to ensure that the factories comply. Besides, the factories have been instructed to abide by the hygiene rules after the start of the second wave.

At the time, it was said that the current real situation in the garment industry was that due to the outbreak of the second wave of the ongoing corona epidemic, the purchase of readymade garments in the western world has decreased by 30 to 40 percent. Buyers are pushing for lower prices and for immediate shipping. Otherwise there is a threat of cancellation of the purchase order.
