The ongoing lockdown has been extended till May 16. At this time, the transaction time in banks and financial institutions has been extended by one hour. However, the bank will be open for only four days before Eid. According to the new decision, banking transactions will continue from 10 am to 2 pm every day except weekly and public holidays from today till May 16. The bank will be open for ancillary work till 3:30 pm. Transactions of financial institutions will also continue from 10 am to 2 pm. Apart from this, the bank’s branches in the garment industry area should be kept open even on public holidays to facilitate the payment of salaries, bonuses and other allowances to the garment workers and officials prepared before Eid. A separate circular has been issued by the offsite supervision and financial institutions and markets department of Bangladesh Bank on Wednesday.
According to the rules, if the fast is 29, the Eid holiday should start from May 12. Then only three banking working days will be available before Eid. These are Thursday, Sunday and Tuesday. Monday is a public holiday in the middle of Shabekdar. However, Bangladesh Bank officials said that the bank will remain open on Wednesday, May 12, whether it is 29 or 30 days of Ramadan.
According to a circular issued by the Offsite Supervision Department, banking transactions will be conducted daily from 10 am to 2 pm, except for weekly and public holidays from May 6 to 17. The bank will be open for ancillary work till 3:30 pm. Apart from this, in order to facilitate the payment of salary-bonus and other allowances to the garment workers and officials prepared before Eid and to continue the export trade, the concerned branches and head offices of Scheduled Banks in Dhaka metropolitan, Ashulia, Tongi, Gazipur, Savar, Bhaluka, Narayanganj and Chittagong. The department should be kept open from May 10 to May 13 (subject to Eid on May 14) to ensure proper hygiene. The circular further said that the officers and employees must stay at their respective workplaces during the Eid holidays.
On the other hand, the Financial Institutions and Markets Department said in a circular that a branch of financial institutions is a maximum of one branch in every district of Dhaka and beyond except for weekly and public holidays from May 8 to May 16 to provide urgent financial services such as cash deposits on maturity, deposit of loan installments. The concerned department of the main katsalaya can be kept open from 10 am to 2 pm.
