Last year, a maximum of 36,247 vehicles crossed the Bangabandhu Bridge before Eid-ul-Azha. Meanwhile, the traffic congestion along the Bangabandhu Bridge West Link Road has eased since Wednesday night. The on-duty traffic police said that the pressure of these vehicles has reduced a lot since early morning. It was normal to have extra traffic on this highway in the morning.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bangabandhu West Police Station Mosaddek Hossain said the number of vehicles had increased since yesterday evening but there was no traffic jam on the highway. However, the vehicles have stopped moving. The number of vehicles has come down since this morning.

Chittagong District Superintendent of Police SM Rashidul Haque told Prothom Alo in the afternoon that Zakaria Noman Faizi was remanded for questioning in a rape case. He was produced in court at the end of remand. There he testified. He said he brought a woman to Hathazari in Chittagong with the promise of marriage on the basis of his identity on Facebook. They lived in a rented house as husband and wife. Later, when the woman realized that she would not marry him, he moved to Chittagong. Faizi also went there and raped her with the promise of marriage again.

Zakaria Noman Faizi further testified that in addition to that woman, he had relationships with several other women with whom he used to chat on the phone regularly.

A woman filed the case at Chittagong’s Hathazari police station on May 8 at around 2 am. According to the case, Zakaria Noman Faizi met the woman through Facebook in September 2019. Through chatting on messenger and WhatsApp, he asked the woman to come to Hathazari with the promise of marriage. According to the case, the woman came to Hathazari later. Fayezi rented him a house in November 2019. While staying in a rented house for a year, Faizi raped her on different dates and at different times.

On May 5, Chittagong District Detective Branch (DB) arrested Fayezi from Chakaria in Cox’s Bazar.
