Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has approved a proposal to extend the ongoing ban or ‘lockdown’ for one more week due to the Indian variant of coronavirus.
State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain told the media on Saturday.
He said the Prime Minister has given new approval on May 18-23 after the ongoing ban. A notification will be issued on Sunday.
The state minister for public administration said the ban, which was in place on May 18-23, will continue.
Farhad Hossain said, “We think that the infection may increase from May 22 to 30 after Eid.” It has been decided to increase the ban for this.
On Sunday (May 18), the first working day after the Eid holiday, a notification will be issued to increase the lockdown on that working day. However, the previous ban will be kept there, said Farhad Hossain.
The lockdown was announced on April 5 this year due to the increase in corona infections. Although a loose lockdown was observed till April 13, the government declared a ‘severe lockdown’ from April 14 as the infection increased further. At the end of it all, it was extended till May 18.
