The mother fish has laid eggs in the Halda river, the only natural fish breeding ground in the country, after a long struggle. On Wednesday (May 28) at around 1 am, the mother fish of the national egg lays eggs in different parts of the Halda river. Like every year, the local fishermen are collecting eggs in the festive mood. Egg collectors have claimed that they are getting 3/4 kg eggs in Nayahat area.
Some of the egg collectors said, “We collected sample eggs from Wednesday morning to afternoon. Due to the increase in tidal water, the mother fish did not get a favorable environment to lay eggs. At low tide at night, the mother fish lays eggs. We collected 3-4 kg of eggs. Hopefully I can collect more eggs.
Earlier, the mother fish laid eggs twice on Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon. Fishermen are hopeful of collecting a lot of eggs this time as the overall condition of the river is good. The pollen will be extracted from the collected eggs. Through care, the egg will hatch.
Hathazari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ruhul Amin confirmed the release of mother fish eggs. The egg collectors said that they are getting 3/4 kg of eggs in Nayahat area.
He added that egg collection has been started at Azim Ghat, Ankuri Ghona, Kagtiar Mukh, Garduara Nayahat, Ram Das Munsir Ghat, Mashua Ghona and Sattar Ghat in Hathazari and Raozan sections of Halda river. Egg collectors have been collecting sample eggs since Wednesday morning. Later at around 1am, about a thousand egg collectors in 363 boats, volunteers and students of IDF and Halda Research Laboratory of Chittagong University (CU) are also in Haldapara. Besides, people from upazila administration, naval police and fisheries office are also stationed there.
Incidentally, mother fish lays eggs in the Halda River at any time from April to June every year. However, the condition in this case is that there must be a date of full moon or new moon or Joe. At the same time, there will be a lot of rain with thunder in the local areas of the river and in the hilly areas upstream of the river including Khagrachhari and Manikchhari. As a result, the hill slope will go down and water will flow in the river with foam. Only at this time, when the water is stable at the end of the full tide or at the end of the full ebb, does the mother fish lay eggs.
