One lakh 720 doses of Pfizer-Bioentech will be the third vaccine for coronavirus in the country by next week. The final documents are expected to reach the Department of Health soon. Earlier, on January 20, the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine made at the Seram Institute came to the country as a gift from the Government of India. Then came the vaccine made by Chinese Synopharm earlier this month. Vaccination in Oxford began on January 26 and in China from last Tuesday.
According to Department of Health sources, Pfizer’s vaccine is coming from the World Health Organization’s partner Kovax Group. The first step is to provide free vaccinations to 11 percent of the population in the country. Later, if the government wants, it can buy from that group and bring more vaccines.
A source close to the health department, who did not want to be named, told Kaler Kanth yesterday that the first consignment from Kovacs would be Phiser’s 1,620 doses of vaccine and its accessories, which will arrive in the country next week. However, how this vaccine will be given has not been finalized yet.
According to the Department of Health, a total of 13 million doses of Oxford, 500,000 doses of Chinese synopharm and one lakh 720 doses of Pfizer have arrived in the country so far. In addition, China is expected to receive a few million more vaccines by June, including more than six million doses, where the Oxford vaccine will also be available, the source said.
