A huge fire at a cotton factory in Shalpara area of Panchbibi in Joypurhat has caused a loss of about half a crore rupees. Upon receiving the news, two units of the fire service rushed to the spot and after two hours of efforts, they were able to bring the fire under control. The fire service members initially thought that the fire could have been caused by an electrical short circuit. The incident took place at noon on Thursday at Saiful Islam Sabur Cotton Production Factory and Rice Mill in Shalpara area of the upazila.
Apu Kumar Mandal, station master of Panchbibi Fire Service, said that since the onset of the fire in the electrical short circuit, a terrible fire broke out in the cotton mill at first. The fire spread around at the moment. At that time, a terrible fire broke out in the rice mill and paddy warehouse attached to the cotton mill. We were able to bring the fire under control in a two-hour effort by two units of the fire service.
