A case has been filed in connection with the murder of college student Alamgir Salam Emon in Boalkhali, Chittagong. Khorshed Alam, son of Nabidul Haque of East Charkhijirpur village in the upazila, was named as the main accused in the case filed on Wednesday night (May 26). Another 15-20 unidentified people have been accused in this case. The victim’s sister Tanvi Salam filed the case as a plaintiff.
Emon Jagu, a first-year post-graduate student of Government Haji Muhammad Mohsin College in Chittagong, was killed in a land dispute on Tuesday (May 25) at around 1am. Emon is the son of Abdul Salam of Mubarak Ali Fakir’s house in East Charkhijirpur village. After the autopsy, Emon’s body was buried at the family graveyard after Janazah prayers on Wednesday afternoon.
According to locals, Abdul Salam, Emon’s father, owns a 40-acre plot of land near the mosque near the house. He bought the land 25 years ago. At present the land is worth crores of rupees.
Abdul Salam’s neighbor expatriate said next to the land. Khorshed Alam bought 6 acres of land. From then on, there was a dispute with Abdul Salam over the border. Khorshed organized arbitration meetings more than once to get 3 hundredth place. From then on, the conflict started.
Last Tuesday (May 25) at midnight, Khorshed gathered foreign terrorists to occupy the place. The terrorists took position on the spot in CNG-powered autorickshaws and motorcycles. Locals and Abdul Salam rushed to the spot after seeing so many cars and outsiders. At that time Khorshed Alam was barred from occupying the place. At one stage, Emon, who was standing on the porch of the house, was dragged and beaten to death.
It is known that at one time Khorshed used to sit in his father’s tea shop. Later he migrated abroad. Khorshed came to the country from Saudi Arabia four months ago. When Khorshed came to the country, he claimed 3 hundredth place and gave pole in place of Abdul Salam. Khorshed lodged a complaint with the police against the family of old Abdul Salam for obstructing it. He allegedly tried to occupy the place through a meeting of the arbitrators.
Khorshed’s allegation was being investigated by police sub-inspector Salamat Ullah. He said Khorshed originally did the GD. Abdul Salam and Alamgir Salam Emon were prosecuted in court earlier this month.
Emon’s sister Tanvi Salam said the incident was going on for two days. Police have not yet arrested Khorshed, the mastermind of the incident. Khorshed is an expatriate. Concerned that Khorshed may have fled the country to avoid arrest, Tanvi said he wanted justice for the murder as soon as possible.
Boalkhali Police Inspector (Investigation) Abul Kalam said that two accused named Mohammad Syed and Mahbubur Rahman have been arrested. Police are conducting operations to arrest the rest.
Regarding the arrest of the main accused Khorshed, he said that Khorshed would be arrested as soon as possible and brought under the law. A letter has been sent to immigration to prevent him from leaving the country.
