Many lost their jobs in the Corona epidemic and became helpless to make a living. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina directed to stand by these people whose income has stopped. He directed the leaders and workers to provide gifts from their own funds to the underprivileged poor across the country. In the light of the instructions of the Prime Minister, the gifts are being distributed all over the country in accordance with the health rules. But Patia MP Whip Shamsul Haque Chowdhury was left out. He wanted to thwart the distribution of these gifts in Patia. The incident took place on Saturday morning. The locals have shown anger over this.
It is learned that on Saturday morning, an organization called ‘Greater Chhatra League Patia after Seventy-Five’ took up the program of distributing gifts on the premises of North Gobindarkhil Government Primary School in Patia. All preparations were already done. In the morning, more than five hundred disadvantaged people appeared on the school premises. From freedom fighters to local Awami League leaders and guests also attended. As soon as the ceremony starts, Whip Samsul’s instruction comes, no ceremony can be held here. The guests and the people present were shocked to hear this instruction.
It is learned that the organizers were helpless and shifted to the madrasa ground of Amir Bhandar old house in Patiya with gifts. Disadvantaged people present in the scorching heat are also forced to go there. Everyone present was outraged to see such obstacles in the distribution of the Prime Minister’s gifts. They said Whip Samsul had created obstacles by becoming politically vindictive. Such activities cannot be tolerated in any way.
Muhammad Badiul Alam, Joint General Secretary of Bangladesh Awami Juba League, who was present on the occasion, expressed his displeasure and said that where Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed to stand by the helpless and disadvantaged people across the country, who has so much courage to thwart the event. Who is the deity who obstructs the distribution of gifts given by the Prime Minister? If that Thakur had such compassion, then he could have said that people have elected me by voting, I am standing by their side. He could say, no one needs to come, I will deliver food and clothes to everyone’s house.
He said, ‘We have performed in different areas of the capital. From the Sundarbans to Bandarban, from Teknaf to Tentulia, we have reached everywhere with the Prime Minister’s gifts. Nowhere did anyone interrupt. I have brought these gifts to the grassroots level in different districts and upazilas all over the country, no permission was required anywhere. The permission has been given by the Hon’ble Prime Minister himself. The Prime Minister directed to stand by the poor and helpless people all over the country. No one else’s permission is needed there. ‘
Addressing the local MP and Whip Shamsul Haque, the Juba League leader said, ‘This is arrogance, this is disrespectful. This is extremely disrespectful to the Prime Minister. You said that the leaders and workers of the party will not be able to get down anywhere. You do not allow leaders and activists to enter the field, that is why you were not made an MP. If we want you can not land in Dhaka, Chittagong, even Patia. You will be resisted. ‘
Some freedom fighters and Awami League leaders who were present on the occasion said that the date for organizing the program had already been fixed at the Gobindarkhil school premises. The incident of suddenly ruining the day of the ceremony in this way cannot be accepted. This incident proved once again that Whip Shamsul Haque is truly a detached leader. He ignores the real leaders and leads the intruders. No one dares to speak out against the irregularities, corruption and arbitrariness of him and his family. The incident of extreme insult to an elderly freedom fighter for talking about his injustice is not old. It is important that these news reach the ears of the Prime Minister.
Talking to some disadvantaged people, they said, ‘I have been waiting on the school premises since morning to get the gifts given by the Prime Minister. Suddenly I heard that the program here has been canceled. I was forced to come back to the madrasa ground in the scorching heat. Although the source of income was cut off in the Corona epidemic, MP Shamsul did not get any help. The MP wanted to deprive us of the gift of the Prime Minister even when he came to the area.
Patia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Faisal Ahmed told Kaler Kantha in this regard, ‘It is our responsibility to deliver the gift of the Prime Minister to the disadvantaged people. We have no question of preventing such events. However, I have heard that one party has disrupted such a program.
Meanwhile, former principal of Chittagong College of Fine Arts Professor Mohammad Abdul Alim was the chief guest at the distribution of gifts. Prominent social worker Aminur Rahman Khan presided over the function. The inaugural speaker was former president of Patia Thana Chhatra League Muktijoddha Chowdhury Mahabubur Rahman. Former President of Patia Thana Chhatra League Humayun Kabir Rashed was the special guest. President of Chittagong South District Deshratna Parishad Alhaj Shahjahan Chowdhury and former president of Patia Upazila Chhatra League Saiful Islam Jewel spoke. Juba League leader Belal Sharif, Saifuddin Bhola, Touhidul Alam Jewel, Ujjwal Ghosh, Md. Harun, Chhatra League leader Joynal Abedin Rafi and others.
