Mayor of Basurhat Municipality Abdul Quader Mirza stood beside former BCL leader Anwar Hossain Farooq of Noakhali’s Kabirhat Upazila. He handed over one lakh rupees in cash to Farooq at the municipal office around 11:30 am on Sunday.
Mayor Abdul Quader Mirza said, “I am saddened to know about former BCL leader Farooq.” I contacted Farooq after the news was published in various media. Today I have given him one lakh rupees in cash. I took full responsibility until I entered his job.
Quader Mirza further said that there are many dedicated leaders and workers of our party who are neglected today. They should be evaluated by finding these sacrificial leaders and workers from the party high command. They should stand by.
Earlier on Saturday, when the issue of Farooq came to the notice of the Prime Minister, he immediately gifted an autorickshaw to Noakhali Deputy Commissioner Farooq on his instructions. Deputy Commissioner Khorshed Alam Khan on behalf of the Prime Minister handed over the autorickshaw to Farooq on Saturday.

Two more people were killed in a lightning strike at Shahjadpur in Sirajganj in just seven days. They were killed by lightning at 4 pm on Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Sahelrana, 38, son of Nazrul Mahuri of Brajbala village under Kayepur union and Zaidul, 35, son of Alam Miah of the same village.
It is learned that at the time of the incident, they were staying in a salo room in Ladurpara ground. Locals said they were killed by lightning.
A week ago, three people were killed in lightning strikes in Kaimpur and Gala Union. At present there is panic in Shahjadpur.
