Heavy rains in Gazipur from midnight on Monday have caused massive waterlogging in different parts of the metropolis. The city dwellers are suffering due to waterlogging. Traffic jam has occurred on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway due to waterlogging.
Mujibur Rahman, a resident of the central shady area of Gazipur City Corporation, said that a strong role should be played now to reduce water logging. For this it is necessary to stop the construction of unplanned houses and to improve the drainage system.
Talking to some people in the area, it was learned that torrential rain started from midnight yesterday in the vicinity of Gazipur town. Today, Tuesday morning, sometimes heavy, sometimes moderate rain. Due to heavy rains, waterlogging has occurred in different areas of Gazipur metropolis. The area in front of the police station in the Tongi Station Road area of Gazipur and in front of the Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital is completely submerged. Waterlogging has occurred in more than 50 areas including Konabari, Jarun, Chandna Chowrasta, Basan Road, Bhogra, Mogarkhal, Meghdubi, Ambag, Gachha, Itahata, Raushan Road. Residents of these areas are not able to get out of their houses. He has been under house arrest since morning. Water has also penetrated inside the house in the area.
Gazipur City Corporation Mayor Jahangir Alam said, ‘Some areas have become waterlogged due to heavy rains. But hopefully these waters will go away soon. There is adequate drainage system in the city corporation area. More work is going on.
Aminul Islam, a resident of Basan Road area of Gazipur City Corporation, said that almost all the roads in the area were flooded due to heavy rains. Workers of different industries are going to the factory on their knees.
Shyamal Kumar, a factory worker of Labib Group in Bhogra area, said, ‘I woke up in the morning and saw water in the yard. There is water in the kitchen. Couldn’t cook in the morning. I am going to work now after eating at the hotel. ‘ Factory worker Nasreen Akhter said they usually walk to the factory. But there is no end to their misery today as the roads are flooded due to rains.
Mehedi Hasan, Assistant Commissioner of Traffic, Gazipur Metropolitan Police, said vehicles could not run at normal speed due to waterlogging on the Gazipur section of the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway due to continuous rain since last night. This is causing traffic jam. There is traffic jam on the highway from Chandna crossroads for about 4 to 5 km. Besides, BRTA development project is underway from Uttara, Abdullahpur to Chandna Crossroads in Gazipur. Police have been deployed at various points on the highway despite the waterlogging. They are trying to reduce traffic congestion.
