Imdadul Haque, Dean, Faculty of Biology, Dhaka University, has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor, Jagannath University. He is a Professor in the Department of Botany, Dhaka University
The President and the Chancellor of the University Abdul Hamid Imdadul Haque made the appointment. The Ministry of Education has issued a notification in this regard on Tuesday. University Registrar Ohiduzzaman confirmed the information in the first light.
According to a circular signed by Mahbub Alam, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Education, Professor Imdadul Haque has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Jagannath University under Section 10 (1) of the Jagannath University Act, 2005. The term of his appointment as Vice-Chancellor is four years. However, if applicable, he shall return to the original post on completion of regular service age and complete the remainder of that term at the end of the formalities of retirement. The Vice-Chancellor will receive the same salary-allowance as his current post and will enjoy other benefits related to the post as per the rules.
The notification further said that Imdadul Haque will be on the university campus full time as the CEO of the university. The President and the Acharya can cancel the appointment at any time if necessary.
According to the office of the Vice-Chancellor of the University, after the establishment of the University in 2005, Professor Sirajul Islam, Chairman of the Microbiology of Dhaka University, became the first Vice-Chancellor. Abu Hossain Siddique, Professor, Department of International Business, Dhaka University, has been the second Vice-Chancellor since 2006. In 2009, the government appointed Professor Mesbah Uddin of Dhaka University as the third Vice-Chancellor. In 2013, the government appointed Professor Mizanur Rahman as the fourth Vice-Chancellor. On March 17 this year, Vice Chancellor Mizanur Rahman completed his second term. Later on Tuesday, Professor Imdadul Haque was appointed as the fifth vice-chancellor of the university.
