The decapitated body of a grocer has been recovered from inside a shop in Chittagong. His name is Mohammad Azam (26). His body was recovered from a shop in Mandakini area of Farhadabad union in Hathazari upazila on Wednesday morning. However, the police could not say why Azam was killed.
According to the victim’s family and police sources, Azam’s marriage was fixed a week ago. Azam used to stay at night in the shop next to his house. As the shop did not open on Wednesday morning, a nearby shopkeeper kept calling him. His family was informed as there was no response from inside.
Hathazari Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rafiqul Islam, after inspecting the spot, told Prothom Alo this morning that all the doors and windows of the shop were in order. The body was recovered after cutting the tin rice of the shop as the door was not opened from inside. The mobile phone, shop items and cash box with the deceased Azam are all fine. The money there was not looted. The victim has bruises on his neck. He was strangled to death. The matter is mysterious.
Local UP chairman Ali Akbar told reporters that no one was known to be hostile to Azam. Why this happened, it should be found out.
Police say they have launched an investigation into the incident. The body was recovered and sent to Chittagong Medical College morgue for autopsy.
