In the last 24 hours, seven more people have died in the corona unit of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital due to coronavirus infection and treatment. Of these, five were corona positive. The other two died of corona symptoms. Saiful Ferdous, deputy director of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, confirmed the matter in the first light on Wednesday morning.
With this, 8 patients died in the corona unit of this hospital in 10 days from last 24 May to today 2 June. Of these 6, 36 were corona positive. Others have died of corona symptoms. Patient pressure is increasing in the corona wards of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. In a year and a half, a maximum of 220 patients are currently admitted there.
Saiful Ferdous said three people from Chapainawabganj, three from Rajshahi and one from Natore were among those who died at the hospital in the last 24 hours. Their bodies have been advised to be buried according to hygiene rules.
According to hospital sources, deaths at the corona unit of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital have been increasing at an alarming rate since Eid. This number has risen alarmingly since the last week of May. In the last 10 days alone, 6 people have died while undergoing treatment here. Of these, 10 were on May 24, 4 on May 25, 4 on May 26, 4 on May 26, 9 on May 26, 12 on May 30, 4 on May 31, 4 on May 31, 7 on June 1 and the last was on June 2 at 6:30 am 6 more people died till 10 o’clock. In these 10 days, Chapainawabganj has the highest death rate in the department, hospital sources said.

Increasing patient pressure
The number of corona patients is increasing day by day in Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, the largest medical center in Rajshahi region. Doctors are struggling to handle these patients. The hospital has admitted 220 patients till 10:30 am on Wednesday. 218 people were admitted on Tuesday. However, during the first wave of corona last year, the highest number of patients admitted in one day in the corona ward of the hospital was 136.
The director of the hospital, Brigadier General Shamim Yazdani, said the condition of almost everyone admitted to the hospital was very bad. Admission is not being taken only if the corona is positive. Only those with low oxygen saturation are being admitted. There are 232 beds in the corona unit of this hospital. Some of these beds are empty. The ICU is never empty.
The director further said that at present there are eight wards for the treatment of Corona patients. They are going to launch another corona ward for the treatment of corona patients. However, they need doctors to treat so many patients in the hospital. They have written to the health department about this. However, they have not received a response yet.
