In Satkhira, a young man was hacked to death and his body was left in a pond

Police have recovered the body of Ashikur Rahman alias Jewel (35) from a pond in Debhata, Satkhira. It is believed that the miscreants left the body in the pond after being hacked to death. Police recovered his body from Debhata village in Sadar union of Debhata upazila around 11pm on Wednesday. His home is in that village.

According to China Khatun, the mother of the deceased, Ashikur went to the pond last night. When he did not return home at around 9 pm, he called and got his son’s phone switched off. He later informed his brother Manik and called him home. At one stage of the search, they saw blood on the steps of the pond. Following the blood stains, they saw Ashikur’s body lying in a nearby pond. When informed, the police went around at 11 pm and recovered the body.

When asked, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Debhata Police Station Biplob Kumar Saha said, “After receiving the news, the police recovered Ashikur’s body from the pond at around 11pm.” He has two sharp weapon marks on his head and nose. He is thought to have been killed by gunmen. The police are investigating the cause of the murder. The body was sent to Sadar Hospital for autopsy on Thursday. No one has yet filed a case on behalf of the family of the deceased.
