Police have rescued the abducted college student from Brahmandi in Narsingdi city, arrested four people and completed the case and chargesheet in just 9 hours. These incidents happened in phases on Thursday, which is being seen as a rare example.
Narsingdi district police said college student Sabuj Mollah, 18, went to study in Brahmandi area from Shalidha area of the city around 7am on Thursday. On his way home, four youths forcibly picked him up from a place adjacent to Narsingdi Government College in a battery-powered autorickshaw at around 11am. The abductors later took him to a pond in Ghagtia village of Shibpur upazila. The abductors snatched four thousand rupees and his mobile phone from his pocket. Later, he called Sabuj’s uncle through that mobile phone and demanded five lakh rupees. If he does not pay the ransom, he will be killed and his body will be disappeared.
The district police further said that an officer of the Special Branch (DSB) of the district police witnessed the abduction in front of Narsingdi Government College. Superintendent of Police (SP) Kazi Ashraful Azim came to know about the incident through that officer. Later, under the direction of SP, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of District DB Mohammad Abul Basar led a rescue operation for college student Sabuj Mollah. Within two hours of the abduction, DB rescued him from a pond in Ghagtia village in Shibpur and arrested four people involved in the incident. Four thousand rupees, a battery-powered autorickshaw and a mobile phone were seized from the arrested persons. Police filed a chargesheet in the court within three hours of the case being filed at the Narsingdi Model Police Station around 5pm. The four detainees were later shown arrested.
He is a class XI student of a private college called National College of Education in Brahmandi area of Sabuj Mollah town and son of Badal Mollah of Karimpur in Charanchal of Sadar upazila. Nadeem Mia (19) of Sangeeta area of Narsingdi was arrested in the abduction. Arif Mia (20), Chandra Das of Velanagar area and Md. Of Srirampur area of Raipura upazila. Mamun (25).
SP Kazi Ashraful Azim said the abduction in the morning, rescue at noon and arrest of the accused, the case was filed again in the evening and the chargesheet was filed in the evening. The chargesheet was filed after the college student’s statement, analysis of other evidence and investigation. The victim and the plaintiff are also happy that all the proceedings of the case have been completed so quickly.
