The three accused remanded in a case filed with the Hatirjheel police station in connection with the trafficking of women in India have named a few others involved in the trafficking. At the same time, the police officials involved in the investigation said that they gave important information during the interrogation about how the trafficked girls were sent to India.
Police have started questioning accused Mehedi Hasan, his father Abdul Quader and his accomplice Mohiuddin on a five-day remand since Friday.
A young woman who was trafficked escaped from India on May 8 and came to Bangladesh. He filed a case against the traffickers at Hatirjheel police station on June 1. The names of 12 people have been mentioned in this case. Rifadul Islam alias Hridoy (28), known as ‘Tiktak Hridoy’, was involved in the incident.
A video of a Bangladeshi girl being sexually abused in India has recently gone viral. The video shows the heart being tortured. On May 26, police arrested six people, including Hridoy, in Bangalore, India.
Besides, on May 26, the father of a young woman who was sexually abused in India filed another case under the Prevention and Suppression of Human Trafficking and Pornography Control Act at Hatirjheel Police Station in the name of five people including a tickling heart. In this case, RAB has arrested four people including Ashraful Alam Mandal alias Rafi, the ringleader of the smuggling ring.
Hatirjheel police are investigating the two cases. Tejgaon Industrial Area Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police supervising the investigation of the case. Hafiz Al Farooq told Prothom Alo yesterday that Mehdi and his associates, who were in remand, had informed about the return of some more young women from India during interrogation.
The police will talk to the young women who have returned and get information about the entire network of traffickers. If the victims want to file a case with the police station, the police will cooperate.
The police official said that the accused had given information about the role of the members of the gang, who were involved in smuggling in the border area and during interrogation.
According to the sources involved in the investigation of the case, the police have got two mobile phones seized from Mehedi Hasan, an associate of Tiktak Hridoy, and a number of girls trafficked to India from a book and some mobile phone numbers of the gang members there.
Meanwhile, after the video of sexual abuse of a Bangladeshi girl went viral in India, senior officials of Dhaka’s Tejgaon division are in touch with senior officers of the Bangalore Police to verify the information obtained about the six people arrested there. Police officials from the two countries are exchanging information about the smuggling ring.
