Summit Meghnaghat-2: Installation of GE’s gas turbine started

The Summit Meghnaghat-2 Power Plant project under construction near Dhaka has successfully started installing gas turbines as per the Summit project period, which will be operational by 2022. With the launch of this project, it will be able to generate equivalent electricity to meet the electricity needs of seven lakh households.

Muhammad Aziz Khan, the founding chairman of Summit Group of Companies, said that Bangladesh still lags far behind the Indian subcontinent in terms of per capita electricity consumption, although Bangladesh’s per capita GDP growth rate is the highest in the region. The Summit is building basic infrastructure for the people of the country as Bangladesh’s economic progress accelerates. “For the first time in Bangladesh, we are hopeful of producing affordable and reliable electricity using GE’s state-of-the-art HA technology,” he said.

Deepesh Nanda, CEO, GE South Asia Gas Power, said, “GE is proud to be a long-term partner of the Summit Group. We are committed to helping Bangladesh overcome all development obstacles in its journey to become the world’s fastest growing economy through a variety of services and solutions in the energy sector in the future. GE has several powerful gas turbine installations in Bangladesh, which together can generate about three gigawatts of electricity.

More than 1,100 workers are working at different stages of the Summit Meghnaghat-2 project. At present, work is underway to install gas turbines by strictly ensuring the hygiene of everyone in the Covid-19 situation. Notification
