Harlal Maishal, a trader in Balar Bazar, told Prothom Alo on his mobile phone that the deck of the bridge collapsed around 9:30 pm. But no repair initiative was taken by the road department till 10:30 am. People from 21 districts of the south-west travel to Chittagong by this road.

Sabbir Hossain, a truck driver traveling on the Satkhira-Chittagong route, said on his mobile phone that 20 passenger buses and 80-90 goods trucks were stuck on both sides of the bridge. News has been sent to the road department. They haven’t arrived yet. Now we have to wait here all night.

Bhuiyan Redwanur Rahman, executive engineer of the Shariatpur office of the RSA, told Prothom Alo that workers had been sent to repair the deck of the Bailey Bridge. It will be possible to start vehicles on the bridge by repairing it at night.
