Mamunul jailed after 18 days remand

Hefazat leader Mamunul Haque has been sent to jail after being remanded for 16 days in six separate cases.

Narayanganj Senior Judicial Magistrate Kawshar Alam was sent to Kashimpur Jail after a hearing at 11am on Saturday (June 5). Earlier in the morning, Mamunul Haque was produced before the court under tight security after a 16-day police remand in six separate cases.

Narayanganj Court Police Inspector Asaduzzaman confirmed the matter.

Of the six cases filed against Mamunul Haque, three were by the district police, two by the CID and one by the PBI. Mamunul Haque was last remanded for three days in a case filed by the PBI on Wednesday. Earlier on May 12, the court granted three-day remand to Mamunul Haque in five more cases filed with Siddhirganj and Sonargaon police stations on charges of sabotage and rape.

On April 3, Mamunul Haque was blocked at the Royal Resort in Sonargaon along with a woman claiming to be his second wife. Later, Hefazat activists and supporters vandalized the resort and snatched Mamunulak away. Police arrested Mamunul Haque from Jamia Rahmania Madrasa in Mohammadpur on April 17 at noon.
