Health Minister Zahid Malek is hopeful of getting the vaccine this month. “We were the first to get vaccinated,” he said. Our vaccination activities started before other countries. These vaccination activities were conducted smoothly and beautifully. But I did not get the supply of vaccine properly. Agreements are being made with Russia and China. The World Health Organization is also supposed to give us 60 million doses. We are lobbying hard there too. I am lobbying hard with the United Kingdom. I hope the vaccine will be available this month.
The health minister expressed this hope at a memorial service and prayer meeting of the late mother in Manikganj on Saturday afternoon. The gathering was organized by Colonel Malek Medical College and the 500-bed hospital at the first lecture gallery of Colonel Malek Medical College in Manikganj Sadar.
The health minister said, ‘I have formed the district committee in January last year before the corona infection in the country. A month later, the treatment protocol was prepared at Dhaka Medical College. No one knows the treatment of corona. Many said, you have not taken any action. If I ask, what action will I take? Then we would take that action. No one in the world knew about this system. We have taken immediate action knowing, seeing and learning. The Prime Minister always guided.
Zahid Malek said, ‘We have made about 12 to 14 thousand beds for the treatment of Corona patients. 70-80 have been hospitalized. From one lab to 500 labs now. But it is not a small matter. About 100 hospitals have central oxygen system. There are 18,000 beds with central oxygen. There were very few before. Liquid Oxygen Plan was in two to four hospitals. We started telemedicine. Many people have taken the service. Due to this the death rate in the country is low. The death rate in the world is two and a half percent and in Bangladesh it is one and a half percent. Three lakh people have died in India and six lakh in America. 12 thousand in our country.
The health minister said eight cancer and eight kidney hospitals have been approved in each department. Construction of these hospitals will begin. The entire Ministry of Health has been digitized. All systems will be digitized. Each patient will have health data. The entire healthcare system will be digitized.
The health minister further said that a huge budget has been announced in the health sector. A budget of Tk 33,000 crore has been announced. Besides, a total allocation of Tk 10,000 crore has been made. In all, there is a budget of Tk 43,000 crore for the health sector.
Colonel Malek Medical College Principal Zakir Hossain presided over the commemoration ceremony. Earlier, the Health Minister addressed the inaugural function of the livestock exhibition at Garpara High School ground in the district headquarters. “Coronary infections are on the rise in our border areas,” he said. However, the country’s economy is good because Corona is under control in the country.
It may be mentioned that on May 26, the mother of the health minister, Fauzia Malek, died due to old age. Fauzia Malek is the wife of the late Abdul Malek, former mayor of Dhaka City Corporation and jute minister Colonel (retd).
