ECNEC got approval for 10 projects worth Tk 751 crore

The meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved 10 projects at a cost of Taka 8,851.34 crore. The approval was given at an ECNEC meeting chaired by Prime Minister and ECNEC Chairperson Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday (June 6). Planning Minister MA Mannan told reporters after the meeting.

The government will provide Tk 5,219.61 crore out of the approximately Tk 8,851.34 crore for the approved project, the agency’s own financing will be Tk 696.3 crore and foreign loan will be Tk 638.50 crore.

Of the projects, 9 are new and one is revised. Among the new projects, the Road Transport and Highways Department’s project ‘Construction of Nalua-Baherchar Bridge over Pandav-Payra River at 26th km of Barisal (Dinarerpool) Laxmipasha-Dumki Road (Z-6044) will cost Tk 1,235 million. The project will be implemented at a cost of Tk 6,851.34 crore from July 2021 to June 2026.

The Department of Road Transport and Highways ‘Upgradation of Madhupur-Mymensingh National Highway (N-401) to appropriate standard and width’ project will be implemented at a cost of Taka 1,106.18 crore. The project will be implemented from July 2021 to June 2024.

The Ministry of Shipping’s ‘Construction of River Ports in Chilmari Area (Ramna, Jorgach, Nayarhat)’ project will be implemented at a cost of Taka 235.59 crore. The project will be implemented from July 2021 to December 2023.

The ‘Modernization and Expansion of Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons’ project of the Department of Health Education and Family Welfare has been approved at a cost of Taka 215.43 crore. The project will be implemented from July 2021 to December 2024.

The Ministry of Water Resources’ project to preserve the right bank of the river Jamuna and strengthen Betil Spar-1 and Enayetpur Spar-2 in Brahmangram-Hatpanchil and adjoining areas under Shahjadpur upazila of Sirajganj district will be implemented at a cost of Taka 747.49 crore. The project will be implemented from July 2021 to October 2024.

The Ministry of Water Resources has approved Tk 298.38 crore for the project ‘Rehabilitation of Tangan Barrage, Buribandh and Bhullibandh Irrigation Projects, Construction of Riverbank and Integrated Water Control Infrastructure’ in Thakurgaon district. The project will be implemented from July 2021 to December 2024.

The Ministry of Agriculture has approved the cost of Tk 72.35 crore for the project ‘Development and enhancement of agricultural seeds through biotechnology’. It will be implemented from July 2021 to June 2025.

The Ministry of Food has approved the project ‘Construction of modern paddy silo (first 30 silo construction pilot projects) with drying, storage and other ancillary facilities in different parts of the country’ at a cost of Tk 1,400.22 crore. The project will be implemented from July 2021 to December 2023.

The Department of Energy and Mineral Resources has approved the construction of ‘Bakhrabad-Meghnaghat-Haripur Gas Transmission Pipeline’ project at a cost of Taka 1,304.62 crore. It will be implemented from July 2021 to June 2024.

The latest revised project is the Ministry of Public Administration’s ‘BPATC’s Training Capacity Building’ project. Its first amendment has been approved. The cost of the project has increased by Tk 348.61 crore to Tk 1,206.71 crore. The project is scheduled to be implemented from July 2018 to June 2020, but its duration has been extended by three years to June 2023.
