Whip Shamsul Haque Chowdhury has been declared unwanted in Chittagong. The announcement was made at a protest rally and assembly called by the Council for the Honor of Heroic Freedom Fighters in Chittagong on Wednesday. They also demanded action against the whip and his son Sharun and brother Nawab Chowdhury. Speakers at the protests and rallies said that neither the flag of the National Assembly nor the national and party flags were safe for the whip and his family.
Earlier, the rally was scheduled to be held at Chittagong Press Club at 3 pm but due to police obstruction, the rally could not be held at the pre-arranged place. However, demonstrations, processions and street rallies were held at different points. Thousands of freedom fighters took to the streets on WASA Paltan Road via Cheragi Hill, DC Hill Road near the Press Club. They chanted slogans against Whip Shamsul and his son Sharun and brother Nawab in protest of insulting the freedom fighters. The freedom fighters gathered at the residence of the late public leader Zahur Ahmad Chowdhury, a close associate of Bangabandhu, in a procession with slogans.
“We have taken to the field against the corrupt whip,” said Samsuddin Ahmed, an eighty-year-old freedom fighter who was threatened by the whip’s brother Nawab at the rally. I have taken to the field against the yaba trader. I have taken to the field against the looters. ‘ Why did Zahur Ahmad Chowdhury come in front of the residence even though there was a program in front of the press club? In response to this question, this heroic freedom fighter said, the reason behind forcing our leader to come to the residence of the late Zahur Ahmad Chowdhury and hold the last rally was the obstruction of the police. Hundreds of police have cordoned off the press club premises.
Making the same allegation, freedom fighter Kazi Abu Tayyab said, ‘Patiya MP Whip Shamsul Haque Chowdhury and his son and brother have come out in the field to protest against looting and glory and condemnation of freedom fighter humiliation. This struggle will not end until the culprits are brought to justice. The flag of the National Assembly is never safe for a freedom fighter oppressor, nor is the national flag safe. Bangabandhu’s party Bangladesh Awami League is also not safe.
Freedom fighters and leaders who joined the rally demanded the expulsion of Whip Shamsul Haque Chowdhury from the post of Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad and also from the post of Awami League member. Other speakers at the Muktijoddha-Janata rally demanded the Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to take action against the whip and his son and brother from Bangabandhu’s party Bangladesh Awami League, the force of progress and non-communalism.
