Two people, including a driver, were killed in a collision between a pickup and a van in Panchagarh’s Tentulia upazila. The accident took place on Wednesday (June 9) night on the Versa Bridge on the Panchagarh-Banglabandha Highway in Buraburi area of the upazila.
The deceased were identified as Rubel Hossain, 20, a pickup driver and Swapan, 18, a passenger of the pickup. Another passenger of the pickup named Sujan Ali (19) was seriously injured. He was rushed to Panchagarh Adhunik Sadar Hospital and later to Rangpur Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
The deceased were identified as Rubel Hossain, son of Kalu Miah of Kalandigach Boalimari area of Tentulia upazila, Anwar Hossain of Fultala area of Swapan Boda upazila and Sujan Sohrab Ali of Boalimari area of Tentulia upazila.
According to locals, Rubel was on his way to Tentulia from Panchagarh with a pickup at 11pm on Wednesday. Swapan and Sujan got up as passengers on the way. On the way, their pickup reached the old Versace Bridge and collided with a covered van coming from the opposite direction. The pickup driver Rubel died on the spot. Swapan and Sujan were rescued by the locals in critical condition and taken to Panchagarh Modern Hospital where Swapan died. Sujan has been sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
Officer-in-charge of Tentulia Highway Police Station Rabiul Azam said the covered van was detained. However, the driver and his accomplice escaped. The process of taking legal action in this regard is underway.
Tangail’s Mirzapur police have arrested six members of an inter-district women’s snatching ring. Police arrested them from the Deohata outpost area of Gorai Union in Mirzapur upazila on the Dhaka-Tangail highway on Wednesday (June 9th). Police said they were accused in multiple drug cases.
