Miscreants hacked to death Rabindra Chandra Das, 45, a member of Noakhali’s Dwip Upazila Hatiyar Char Ishwar Union Parishad (UP) Ward 3 and a candidate for the upcoming UP elections. The incident took place at around 2 am on Wednesday at the door of Azad Chairman’s old house on Nanda Road in Char Ishwar Union. However, the police could not arrest anyone in the incident till 10 am on Thursday.
Rabindra Chandra Das was the vice-president of Hatia Upazila Swechchhasebak League and a member of the executive committee of the upazila Awami League.
Eyewitness Upazila Sramik League president Al Amin said he and UP member Rabindra Chandra Das were riding a motorcycle from Banglabazar in Char Ishwar Union to Ochkhali in the upazila at around 2am. There were four of them on two more motorcycles in the back. When their motorcycle came in front of the old house of Abdul Halim Azad, the current chairman of Char Ishwar UP on Nandrood, a group of terrorists shot at them.

This morning, he received news from the area that his council member Rabindra Chandra Das had been killed by terrorists at the door of his old house. Claiming that none of his people were involved in the incident, he said, “Someone may have caused this incident to fish in muddy waters in the run-up to the June 21 UP elections.” He demanded a proper investigation into the incident.
Hatia Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Khair has confirmed the news of the UP member being hacked to death. He said that after receiving the news of the incident, they went to the spot at night and recovered the body of Rabindra Chandra Das. The lower part of the right elbow of the body was not found during the rescue. In addition, the upper part of the right ankle is also cut. Police raided Azad’s house at night after the incident. However, no one was arrested from there.
