Javed Akhtar is the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD) of Unilever Bangladesh Limited (UBL). He will take charge from July 1. Unilever said in a press release on Thursday. Javed will also join the Unilever South Asia Leadership Team.
Javed Akhtar is going to be the second Bangladeshi MD of Unilever Bangladesh. Earlier, Kamran Baker served as Chairman and MD of Unilever Bangladesh.
Javed Akhtar is currently the Vice President of Digital Transformation and Growth at Unilever’s South Asia region. Javed Akhtar is the current CEO and MD of UBL replacing Kedar Lel. Kedar Lele has been the CEO and MD of Unilever Bangladesh since January 2016. In addition to managing director, Kedar Lele has been the chairman of Unilever Bangladesh since 2020. He will then join Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) as Executive Director of the Consumer Development Managing Committee. He will also be the chairman of Unilever Bangladesh.
Javed Akhtar, who has a long experience in the corporate business sector, started his career in British American Tobacco. He joined Unilever in 2000 as a senior brand manager in the Oral Care business. Rich in 24 years of work experience in South Asia, Southeast Asia and various parts of Australia, Javed Akhtar specializes in Consumer Centricity, Design Thinking and Innovation Management. Javed holds a bachelor’s degree from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) of Dhaka University.
Javed Akhtar set up a ‘Digital Council’ for Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) after taking over as the Vice President of the ‘Digital Transformation and Growth’ Department. He is also the protagonist of Unilever’s well-known ‘Reimagin HUL’ agenda. This integrated end-to-end digital transformation program has received a great response from Unilever.
