Raheem Sterling and captain Harry Kane scored in the second half as England beat old rivals Germany 2-0 to reach the quarter-finals of the Euro Cup 2020. Two-time champions Germany were knocked out of the tournament after losing the match at London’s Wembley Stadium on Tuesday.
Sterling scored in the 75th minute of the match, while Kane scored a header in the 86th minute to give his team victory. This is only the second time in the European Championship that England have won a match by knockout.
Like in the 1966 World Cup final, England beat Germany 2-0 on Tuesday. Rahim’s name once again entered the scoresheet for England. England had won two matches at the group stage and Rahim scored in both.
In this round of 16 match of Euro 2020, England scored more than one goal for the first time. Captain Harry Kane scored a goal to ease the pressure on his shoulders. He played a key role in helping England win only their second European Championship knockout victory by scoring a header off Jack Grealish’s cross. Earlier in Euro 96, England had defeated Spain. Then Germany defeated him at the same Wembley ground and made it to the final.
