- Lawyers seen traveling on scooter during the hearing
Due to the Corona epidemic, at present, the courts of the country are hearing only through video conferencing. During this, many cases of breaking the dress code by lawyers have come to the fore. The Allahabad High Court has taken a tough stand on lawyers appearing in colored shirts and vests during the virtual hearing. Recently a lawyer was seen attending the hearing while traveling on a scooter.
The court, in its order during the hearing of a case, said, “The presence of advocates in casual dress is highly inappropriate and unacceptable under any circumstances.” They should understand that their presence is like an extended court room for hearing cases through virtual mode from their home or office. It is as serious as it is during a court proceeding.
‘Lawyers wear only court clothes’
The Single Judge Bench has also prescribed dress code for lawyers. “While appearing in the court in virtual mode, he has to wear plain white shirt/white salwar-kameez/white saree,” the court said. The premises from which they appear should have a decent and presentable background with a peaceful atmosphere. Be attentive to the court. It would be great if they wear a black coat too.

The order further said, “Today while hearing the present matter through virtual mode, a lawyer appearing for one of the parties appeared wearing a collared shirt and showed no remorse even after objecting to his conduct.” .’ In its order, the court cited past instances of such appearances, including ‘a woman lawyer with a face pack’, a lawyer ‘while driving a scooter’, and ‘wearing a vest’ before the court.
