Have to resign due to constitutional crisis
For the past few days, there was speculation about the resignation of Tirath Singh Rawat. Rawat became the chief minister on 10 March. Rawat, MP from Pauri, had to win the assembly elections till September 10 to continue in his post. Gangotri and Haldwani have two assembly seats in the state where by-elections are to be held. There was speculation that Rawat may contest the by-poll from Gangotri seat in the Garhwal region. But in view of the assembly elections in February-March next year itself, it was considered difficult that the Election Commission should conduct by-elections.
Now the command will be handed over to a sitting MLA?
After the resignation of Tirath, for the time being it is clear that there will be no by-elections on the two vacant assembly seats in the state. In such a situation, in place of Tirath Singh Rawat, the command will be handed over to someone who is an MLA.
After the resignation of Tirath, who will the BJP hand over the responsibility?
After the resignation of Tirath, now there is a discussion about whom BJP will hand over the chief minister’s post in the state just before the elections. The first name in the race is that of Higher Education Minister Dhan Singh Rawat in the Tirath cabinet. Dhan Singh Rawat was also seen as a strong alternative to Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat earlier. Dhan Singh, an MLA from Srinagar seat, comes from the RSS cadre and has also been the organization minister in Uttarakhand BJP. Apart from Dhan Singh, the names of cabinet ministers Banshidhar Bhagat and Harak Singh Rawat are also discussed in the Tirath government.
