Former India wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta feels India Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane is no longer the player he was five-six years ago and used to score hundreds at the Wankhede Stadium. Rahane did not make much impact in the final of the World Test Championship against New Zealand.
His 49 and 15 in that match were not enough to save India from an eight-wicket loss. With a five-Test series against hosts England in August-September, there is a debate on whether Hanuma Vihari will be replaced in the middle order.
Dasgupta said on his YouTube channel on Saturday, ‘I don’t think Rahane is the same player he was in 2015-16. Rahane of that time was unbelievable. He was a player I saw playing for Mumbai.
He further said- First morning the pitch of Wankhede was damp, there was grass in the pitch and it was a nightmare to bat there in those days. But Rahane scored over 4000-4500 runs before playing for India, mainly batting at No. It was a wonderful feat.
