President Ram Nath Kovind has divided the portfolios among the ministers of the Narendra Modi cabinet. Rajya Sabha MP Jyotiraditya Scindia has been given the Ministry of Civil Aviation. Earlier discussions were going on that Scindia might get the Ministry of Railways or Human Resource Development.
Jyotiraditya’s father Madhavrao Scindia has also been the Civil Aviation Minister of the country. Madhavrao Scindia was made the Civil Aviation Minister in 1991 under the PV Narasimha Rao government. However, within a year, he resigned from his post after a plane crash.
Earlier on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a massive reshuffle in his cabinet. There was a round of resignations of ministers throughout the day. Many big names like Prakash Javadekar, Harsh Vardhan, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Ratanlal Kataria were discharged from the cabinet. After this, 43 new ministers were sworn in at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in the evening.
On Wednesday late evening, on the advice of the Prime Minister, the President distributed the portfolios of the ministers. Hardeep Puri has been made the Petroleum Minister. He will also continue as the Minister of Urban Development. Purushottam Rupala has been given the Ministry of Dairy and Fisheries Development. Apart from commerce-industry, Piyush Goyal has also got the charge of Minister of Textiles and Food Processing. Giriraj Singh has been given the Ministry of Rural Development. Former IAS officer Ashwini Vaishnav, who studied from IIT Kanpur and Wharton Business School, has been made the new Railway Minister of the country.

Among the other newly appointed ministers, Narayan Rane has been given the Ministry of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises. Along with the country’s Ports, Shipping and Waterways, the responsibility of the Ministry of AYUSH has been entrusted to Sarbananda Sonowal. Ramchandra Prasad Singh has now been made the Steel Minister of India while Mansukh Mandviya has been made the Health Minister. Bhupendra Yadav has been made Labor Minister. Along with this, he has also been given the Ministry of Environment.
