Yashpal Sharma, a former cricketer and a member of the 1983 world-winning Indian team, is no more. He died of a heart attack at the age of 66. Sharma scored 1606 runs in 37 Test matches for India. His highest was 140 and average was 33.45 runs. In ODI cricket, he scored 883 runs in 42 matches at an average of 28.48.
Sharma was the hero of 1983 World Cup
In the 1983 World Cup, the Indian team started with a win against the West Indies. Sharma played an important role in this. When he came to the crease, the team’s score was 76 for three, which was soon reduced to 141 for five.
Sharma played an innings of 89 runs off 120 balls. He not only hit good shots but also ran well between the wickets. Apart from this, be it an aggressive 40 against Australia or an innings of 61 runs against England in difficult conditions. Sharma scored 240 runs in the tournament at an average of 34.28. India finally won the World Cup.
