Police have released Bashundhara Group MD Sayem Sobhan from the case of incitement to suicide in the death of college student Munia and submitted a final report to the court. According to the report, they did not find any evidence of Sayem Sobhan’s involvement in the death. Meanwhile, the court fixed July 29 for the hearing on the report submitted by the police. On that day, the court will decide whether to accept the final report.
The body of Munia, a second-year student of a college in Dhaka, was recovered from a flat in Gulshan on the night of April 26. Munia’s elder sister Nusrat Jahad filed a case with Gulshan Police Station alleging incitement to suicide. The only accused in the case was Bashundhara Group Managing Director (MD) Sayem Sobhan Anvir.
According to the case statement, Mosarat Jahan Munia, 21, was a student of Mirpur Cantonment Public School and College. Mosarat met the accused in the case two years ago. Since the introduction they used to meet in different restaurants and talk on mobile all the time. Munia had a love affair with the accused. Two years ago, the accused rented a flat in Banani of the capital by identifying Munia as his wife. The two started living there. A year later, the accused’s family found out about their love affair through a woman. Later, the accused’s mother called Munia and threatened her and told her to leave Dhaka. The accused later sent Munia to their village home in Comilla and promised to marry her later.
Then on March 1, the accused rented the house again with Munia. This time they went to Gulshan. The accused used to travel to that flat from time to time. The accused promised to marry Munia and settle abroad.
The statement further said that Munia had recently had Iftar at the house of the owner of the house. He later shared the picture on Facebook. There is a misunderstanding between the two. The accused told Munia to leave for Comilla. If the mother of the accused finds out, she will kill Munia. On April 25, Munia cried and told the plaintiff that the accused would not marry her, only suffered. The accused deceived him. His big accident could happen at any time.
Later, the plaintiff left Comilla for Dhaka with his relatives on 27 April. When he reached Gulshan’s house, he saw the door locked from inside. Later, the mechanic broke the lock and entered the room and saw Munia’s body hanging from the ceiling in the bedroom. Later the police came and recovered the body.
