Young opener Prithvi Shaw (Prithvi Shaw vs SL, 3 matches, 105 runs) and middle order batsman Suryakumar Yadav (Suryakumar Yadav vs SL, 3 matches, 124 runs) has been rewarded for his tremendous performance in the ODI series against Sri Lanka. Both these players will join the Indian Test team in England. The National Selectors and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have agreed to send both of them to England, as reported by our partner cricket website ‘Cricbuzz’.
The Indian team, which went for the five-match Test series against England, is battling with the problem of injury. India’s Shubman Gill, Washington Sundar and Avesh Khan are injured. Shubman had suffered an injury after the final match of the World Test Championship last month and has recently returned home. Avesh and Washington Sundar suffered injuries during this week’s warm-up match. Both of them will also return home.
It is understood that the names of Suryakumar and Sau have been cleared by the Chetan Sharma-led selection committee after discussions with head coach Ravi Shastri. An appeal has been made for a third player, but it is not yet known whether any other players will travel to England. It is not yet clear how and from where Suryakumar and Sau will leave for England.
Prithvi and Suryakumar are on a tour of Sri Lanka
Sau and Suryakumar Yadav are currently with Team India on the Sri Lanka tour. The Indian team had earlier demanded Sauv instead of Gill, but the BCCI turned it down.
Test series will be played from August 4
Opener Mayank Agarwal and Rohit Sharma are currently with Team India. Abhimanyu Easwaran is present in England as a standby opener. The 23-man squad was selected by the BCCI for the World Test Championship and the 5-match Test series against England. The Test series between India and England will start from August 4.
