Former Team India batsman VVS Laxman (VVS Laxman) Virat Kohli (Virat Kohli) to refrain from taking DRS out of emotions. He has asked Kohli to take decisions in this matter a little more carefully.
Laxman (Kohli) also reminded that due to DRS decisions (DRS_) the team may have to lose Test matches at times, as Australia had to lose in the 2019 Ashes series at Headingley.
Kohli took the review twice on the second day and both times the decision proved to be wrong. On the second day of the Lord’s Test, Kohli went twice against the on-field umpire’s decision in front of England captain Joe Root, but the result did not change even in the DRS. In both the reviews, it became clear that the ball was missing the stumps.
While talking to ESPN Cricinfo, Laxman also questioned the way Kohli took DRS. He said that DRS is an important part of a Test match and emotions need to be controlled.
Laxman said, ‘I cannot forget how Australia lost the Test match at Headingley. Had Tim Paine not reviewed Nathan Lyon’s delivery against Jack Leach when the ball had clearly pitched outside the leg-stump… the result might have been different. He made the review useless and in the very next over Ben Stokes was clean LBW in front of the wicket but the umpire gave him not out and Australia had no review left. Australia could have won that match.
Laxman said that when Kohli takes DRS, there is a lot of emotion attached to it. He said that the captain should keep emotions away while taking decisions.
Lakshman said, ‘One should be very careful while taking the review. When and how to take it is important. When everyone gathers together, a very awkward situation arises and this adds to the confusion. Bowlers have their own feelings. They feel that every ball that is hitting the pad will hit the wickets or the ball has hit the edge of the bat.
He said, ‘Here the captain needs to remain calm. He only needs to trust a few people. People who have seen the whole ball up close. After this, he should take a decision by being calm and focused. You can’t be emotional while taking a review. These reviews can make you lose matches, we have seen this happen at Headingley.
