India will begin their campaign in the tournament with a match against arch-rivals Pakistan in Dubai on October 24. According to the schedule announced by the ICC, India will next take on New Zealand in Dubai on October 31, followed by Afghanistan on November 3 in Abu Dhabi.
India have to play the remaining two matches of the Super 12 match against the winner of Group B (November 5 in Dubai) and the second placed team from Group A (November 8 in Dubai). The first round of the tournament begins in Oman on October 17, with Oman facing Papua New Guinea (PNG) in the opening match while Bangladesh will take on Scotland.
Who’s in which group?
Group A consists of Sri Lanka, Ireland, Netherlands and Namibia, who became champions in 2014, while Group B consists of Bangladesh, Scotland, Papua New Guinea and Oman. The top two teams from both the groups will qualify for the Super 12 stage. The Super 12 stage is also divided into two groups. This will be the second round of the tournament which will start from October 23. It will start with the match between Australia and South Africa in Abu Dhabi. On the same day, the England team will take the field against the West Indies in Dubai.
The first semi-final will be played in Abu Dhabi on November 10, while the second will be played in Dubai on November 11. The final will be held in Dubai on November 14 and reserve day has been kept on November 15. The tournament is being hosted by the Cricket Board of India (BCCI) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman due to the threat of a third wave of the corona virus epidemic in India.
