- Thousand years old pair of skeletons of two lovers found in China
- Even after so many years, both the skeletons are embracing each other
- Scientists decided to preserve instead of isolate
In China, a loving couple has embraced each other for thousands of years. Scientists have found the remains of a pair of skeletons that are intertwined. The new study claims that the couple was buried 1500 years ago in northern China. These recently discovered skeletons are hugging each other, which everyone is surprised to see. Researchers believe that the woman was wearing a metal ring in her left hand and had sacrificed herself to be buried with her husband.
first pair of embraced skeletons
The discovery of a pair of skeletons in China is nothing new. The researchers wrote about the discovery that these skeletal remains represent the first ‘love’ of its kind in the country and also reflect the changing attitudes towards love in Chinese society thousands of years ago. Lead researcher Qian Wang, associate professor and lead researcher in the Texas A&M College of Dentistry’s Department of Biomedical Sciences, told Live Science that this is the first pair of skeletons ever found in China to hug each other.
600 graves in the cemetery
These skeletons were discovered by archaeologists in June 2020 during the excavation of a cemetery, which was discovered during construction work in Shanxi province. There were about 600 graves in the cemetery, many of which belonged to the Xianbei people. The Xianbei were an ancient nomadic group in northern China that was associated with the Han Chinese culture. The skeletons discovered were buried in a very different way so archaeologists decided not to do a thorough excavation and disassemble the skeletons.
Skeletons reassembled for spectators
The team connected the two together so that in the coming time they could be kept in the museum for public viewing. Wang said that two more pairs of skeletons were found in the same cemetery but they were not completely hugged. Also the women of these skeletons were not even wearing rings. A lot of information has been found about the loving couple even after a partial excavation.
much information from the remains
