At least 18 people have been killed in a collision between a passenger bus, a microbus and a Laguna in Katakhali, Rajshahi. The incident took place in Kapashia area of Rajshahi-Dhaka highway around 2.15pm on Friday.
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner Golam Ruhul Quddus confirmed the deaths of 18 people. Many more were injured in the incident. Three of them have been admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
The bodies of six of the dead have been brought to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. There are 11 bodies on the spot.
Abdur Rauf, senior station officer at the Rajshahi Sadar Station of the Fire Service and Civil Defense, said a Hayes microbus was coming to Rajshahi from Rangpur at noon. On the way, a Hanif Paribahan bus coming from the opposite direction collided head-on on the Rajshahi-Dhaka highway in front of Katakhali police station. The microbus lost control and pushed another human holler (Laguna) standing next to it. At this time the gas cylinder of the microbus exploded. Many people died inside the car.
Abdur Rauf added that there were 13 people from four families inside the microbus. Everyone is dead. Three more people on the bus also died. Six of them were pronounced dead after being taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. The bodies of 11 people were recovered from inside the microbus at the spot.
