There has been a mixed reaction in the minds of the people of Barisal to the government’s decision to lockdown across the country. They have demanded that the lockdown be implemented strictly, not just in the announcement.
Aware Barisal residents say the government’s announcement of a nationwide lockdown from Monday is timely. After the official announcement on Saturday afternoon, many people said that the rate of corona infection has already increased. For this reason, the decision of lockdown should have been taken earlier. This time they have demanded a strict lockdown.
Again, many say the decision to keep the factory open in the lockdown is conflicting. They are fearing that the health rules will be violated in the movement of workers if the factory is open.
It may be mentioned that 117 patients were undergoing treatment in the corona ward of Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical till noon on Saturday. Of these, 21 are positive patients. All of the 12 ICU beds are full. There are at least 20 more waiting for ICU services. In the last 24 hours, 160 people were tested in the RT PCR lab of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and 30 people were identified as corona.
Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital Assistant Director. Moniruzzaman Shaheen said one patient died in the coron ward of the hospital in March 2020. There were 6 patients admitted. However, 32 people died in Corona ward this March and 351 patients were admitted. He described the situation as dire and advised everyone to abide by the health rules.
Cox’s Bazar-4 (Ukhia-Teknaf) MP Shaheen Akter has been diagnosed with coronavirus infection. She is the wife of former Awami League MP Abdur Rahman Badir in that seat.
MP Shaheen Akhter tested the corona sample on March 30 after feeling sick for several days. The next day his report came positive.
