A Muslim has been promoted for the first time as the Chief Justice of Jersey City in the United States. Rami Eid, an American Muslim of Egyptian descent, was promoted to chief justice of Jersey City Municipal Court. Jersey City Mayor Steve Fullop made the announcement.
Rami Eid said, “I am very honored and proud to be appointed as the Chief Justice. I expect this court to conduct successful activities to build the most dynamic court in the state. The court is working to resolve various complex issues, including mental health, domestic violence and social justice.
Eid will begin after the departure of the Chief Justice of the Municipal Court, Carlos Abad. His nomination will be fully confirmed at the Jersey City Council meeting on April 10.
Jersey City Mayor Steve Fullop said, “I believe the judges’ talent and leadership will help our court move forward with equality and without fear.”
