The video of M Aslam Mridha, chairman of Kaitla North Union in Brahmanbaria’s Nabinagar Upazila, drinking alcohol went viral a few months ago. This time the video has gone viral while consuming yaba.
The storm of criticism is going on in the upazila. Chairman M Aslam Mridha is the president of the Awami League of that union. The upazila administration has formed a committee to investigate the incident. And the local Awami League leaders have reacted angrily.
In the viral video, it is seen that UP chairman M Aslam Mridha along with his associates put a drug party in a boat. One is setting him on fire with a gas match, while the chairman is drinking yaba.
Meanwhile, after this video went viral, the chairman covered the village. He is not receiving any calls even though his mobile phone connection is active.
In this regard, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ekramul Siddique said, “An investigation committee has already been formed headed by the Upazila Cooperative Officer to look into the matter.” After receiving the report at the end of the investigation, action will be taken as per the prevailing rules.
In this incident, Brahmanbaria-5 (Nabinagar) MP Mohammad Ebadul Karim said, he is the chairman on one side and the president of Union Awami League on the other side. He is tarnishing the image of the society and the party.
He should be relieved of both responsibilities. Such activities cannot be accepted in any way. He requested the Upazila Awami League president and deputy commissioner to remove him from office immediately. My request to his family is to give him medical treatment even if he is forced to do so.
Upazila Awami League president Faizur Rahman Badal’s mobile phone was called to get the opinion of the party union committee president on drug use.
However, the general secretary of the Awami League. A Halim said, I also came to know about the incident. The matter is extremely sad. After discussions with the president of the Upazila Awami League, appropriate measures will be taken according to the party constitution.
Earlier, on February 4 this year, 11 UP members demanded the removal of UP chairman M Aslam Mridha.
Bachir Mia, a member of UP’s 2nd ward, said union chairman M Aslam Mridhar himself was addicted to drugs and traded drugs. He also embezzled TR Kabikhar’s money. He also took extra money to issue birth and death certificates.
When the 9th ward member and three female members asked the chairman about these matters, he kicked a female member named Lily Begum. We have lodged a complaint with the deputy commissioner against various irregularities including embezzlement of council money.
We have also convened a meeting of all UP members and passed a resolution to remove and provide no-confidence against embezzlement and indecent acts.
