Offensive status of Mamunul Haque on Facebook, Juba League leader arrested

Hefazat-e-Islam’s central joint secretary general Mamunul Haque has been arrested by the police for posting an offensive status on Facebook with a picture of a woman. His name is Emad Ahmed Joy.


He was arrested by Sunamganj’s Tahirpur police on Sunday afternoon.

Son of late freedom fighter Judge Miah of Bholakhali village in Badaghat union of Emad upazila and freedom fighter affairs secretary of the union Juba League.

M Salman Ahmed Sujan, president of Tahirpur upazila branch of Islami Andolan Bangladesh, told Jugantar on Sunday afternoon that Emad had given a status on his own Facebook ID by adding obscene and offensive comments to a photo of a woman on Saturday afternoon. The matter was reported to the police when there was a strong reaction between the society and the Hefazat followers. Later on Sunday, police arrested Emad from Badaghat-Sunamganj road in Badaghat Bazar of the upazila and took him to the police station.

Tahirpur police chief said. Abdul Latif Tarafdar told Jugantar that he (Juba League leader) has been detained and taken into police custody to avoid public unrest and unpleasant incidents. Subsequent legal action is being taken.
Hefazat-e-Islam Joint Secretary General Maulana Mamunul Haque has been transferred to a resort in Sonargaon along with a woman. Rafiqul Islam has been transferred.
Sonargaon police inspector (investigation) Tabidur Rahman confirmed the information to media on Sunday night. He calls it a ‘transfer in the public interest’.

On October 5 last year, Rafiqul Islam took charge as the officer-in-charge of Sonargaon police station.

On April 3, Hefazat-e-Islam leader Mamunul Haque went to the Royal Resort in Sonargaon, Narayanganj with a woman. He was later detained there. Mamunul Haque claims he went on holiday to the resort with his second wife. The incident caused a commotion when he was blocked. Hefazat activists protested in Narayanganj. Various installations including the Royal Resort were vandalized.

 

Hefazat-e-Islam lodged a written complaint on Sunday mentioning the names of two leaders of Juba League and Chhatra League. Hefazat is also blaming the police.

The OC was transferred on Sunday night after the incident.

The plaintiff in the case is Mufti Faisal Mahmud Habibi, the custody leader of Dhaka-10 constituency. Sonargaon Upazila Juba League president Rafiqul Islam Nannu and Narayanganj district Chhatra League former vice-president Sohag Rony filed the complaint accusing some of the main and anonymous people.
The incident has heated up Sonargaon and its surrounding areas. With this, panic spread in different areas throughout the day on Sunday. Leaders and activists of Hefazat-e-Islam took position in several areas and took out protest processions. Leaders and activists of Hefazat-e-Islam took position at Sonargaon police station at noon.
