A five-year-old sleeping child was hacked to death by his stepmother in Khulna.
The incident took place at around 10 pm on Monday in Arkandi village of Terkhada upazila. Police arrested the child’s stepmother Mukta Khatun after the incident.
The deceased was identified as Tanisha Akhter. His father Khwaja Sheikh Ansar was working in the battalion police. He was not at home at the time of the incident.
According to locals, Khwaja Sheikh Ansar married Taslima, daughter of Akkas Sheikh of the same upazila seven years ago. At one point in their marriage, they divorced.
A year and a half ago, he married Mukta Khatun for the second time. After the marriage, stepmother Mukta Khatun could not accept the child Tanisha Akhter. At different times, when Tanisha came to her father’s house, her stepmother Mukta used to torture her.
On Monday, Tanisha came to visit her father’s house and slept with her grandmother. From there, stepmother Mukta picked him up and brought him to her. Tanisha Akhtar, who was sleeping at night, was accidentally stabbed with a sharp weapon. At that time, the locals went to the spot and saw the bloody body of the child and informed the police. Later, the police arrested the child’s stepmother Mukta Khatun.
The blood-stained sharp photos used in the murder were seized at the time. The child was rescued and immediately taken to Terkhada Upazila Health Complex. After taking her to Khulna Medical College Hospital for better treatment, the doctors declared Tanisha dead.
Terkhada Police Station OC Mohammad Golam Mostafa said the body of the deceased child had been recovered. The stepmother has been arrested in this incident.
A college student was killed when a truck overturned on an empty road at Lockdown in Dhaka’s Keraniganj. Her name is Sanjida Akhter Rini (20).
The seriously injured girl was rescued and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the doctor on duty declared her dead at around 8pm on Monday.
Earlier in the afternoon, the accident took place near Hasnabad Bridge in Keraniganj.
The deceased Sanjida Fazlul Haque was an honors first year student of Mahila College.
Witnesses said a truck hit Sanjida, who was standing next to the Hasanabad Bridge, in the afternoon. He was seriously injured. Sanjida was rescued and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the doctor on duty declared her dead at around 8 pm.
South Keraniganj Police Station OC Abul Kalam Azad said the student died in the truck crash. However, the deadly truck was seized but the driver escaped.
The body of the deceased has been kept in the hospital morgue.
