RAB has arrested three persons including a husband and wife along with 1 lakh 6,700 pieces of yaba at Rampur in Feni on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway.
On Monday (April 5) afternoon, RAB members conducted a check post on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway adjacent to Taj Pharmacy in Rampur on the basis of secret information. At that time, a Dhaka-bound private car was searched and 1 lakh 7 thousand 800 pieces of yaba were recovered while wrapping luggage and sacks. Obaidur Rahman and his wife Bobby Akhter and three others, Mohammad Kaif, were detained in a private car on suspicion of involvement in the smuggling.
The detainees are- Md. Delwar Hossain’s son Md. Of Jailpara area of Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha district. Obaidur Rahman Sabu Mandal (35) and his wife Bobby Akhter (32), son of the late Hossain Ahmed of Nomaniachara area of Cox’s Bazar. Kayes (25).

It is learned that Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Marufa Sultana Khan Hiramani visited Fukra Bazar in Sonapur Union of Saltha Upazila around 7pm on Monday to inspect the effectiveness of the lockdown. At that time, some people got out of the Assistant Commissioner’s car and beat up some people present in the market. The neighboring village of Natakhola. Several people including Zakir Hossain Mollah were injured. The crowd was agitated by the news of Zakir Hossain being injured. After a while more villagers gathered there. Upon receiving the news, a group of police led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Mizanur Rahman of Saltha Police Station reached there and attacked them. Mizanur Rahman’s head was blown off. The mob then marched towards the Saltha police station, spreading rumors that several people had been killed by police. Later, one by one, the agitated mob vandalized and set fire to various government offices, installations and residences in the upazila. UNO’s car and Aceland’s car were set on fire at the time.

Alimuzzaman BPM said RAB, Ansar members including Faridpur, Boalmari, Bhanga and Nagarkanda police along with Saltha police fired 57 rounds of shotgun, 32 rounds of gas gun, 22 sound grenades and 85 rounds of rifle to bring the situation under control. Eight members of the law enforcement force were injured. Now the situation is under the control of the police. Additional police are deployed to avoid untoward incidents. Attempts are being made to identify the attackers by looking at various video footage.
