A regimental color distribution ceremony of four units of Bangladesh Army was organized at Jessore Cantonment on Tuesday. Chief of Army Staff General Aziz Ahmed was present as the chief guest.
The 16th and 17th Engineer Construction Battalion and 10th and 11th Signal Battalions of the Bangladesh Army participated in the color parade and officially received the regimental flag from the chief guest.
When the Chief of Army Staff was present at the STC&S Parade Ground in Jessore Cantonment, GOC of 55 Infantry Division Major General Md. Nurul Anwar greeted him. Then the parade commander Lt. Colonel Md. A joint contingent of battalions participating in the color parade, led by Shahabuddin, paraded and saluted the army chief.
It may be mentioned that a unit or regiment was given a regimental color in recognition of its heroic contribution in the war of independence, relentless efforts in establishing peace in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, important contribution in building the country and nation and success in various training and operational activities.
At the time, the Chief of Army Staff said that due to the tireless efforts of Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Bangladesh Army today stands tall in the world as a modern, up-to-date and smart force. He expressed his sincere gratitude to the Prime Minister for this groundbreaking initiative.
The Chief of Army Staff congratulated the units that received the regimental color and said that the receipt of the regimental color was a rare honor and sacred deposit for any unit. This rare achievement on the occasion of the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation and the golden jubilee of independence is undoubtedly even more glorious and joyful.
He instructed the units to be ready to uphold the dignity of the flag received in recognition of efficiency, hard work and diligence and to accept the highest sacrifice in any need of the motherland.
The ceremony was attended by senior officers of the army and members of the army of various ranks.
Police have arrested a 38-year-old man named Helal Uddin for allegedly raping a housemaid in Gazipur’s Tongi. He was arrested from Dattapara Shailaragati area of the district on Tuesday afternoon. The accused Helal Uddin is a resident of Baman Sundar village in Mirsharai upazila of Chittagong district.
According to police and complaint sources, the rape victim had been working as a housemaid for five years in a house in Dattapara Shailaragati area. Accused Helal Uddin raped her and fled when he went to dry wet clothes in an empty flat under construction next to his house on Monday noon. Later, the housemaid informed the people of the house.
When the accused Helal went to the house again on Tuesday afternoon, the locals arrested him and called the police emergency service 999. Police later arrested him from the spot.
Tongi East Police Officer in Charge (OC) said. Jabed Masood confirmed the incident and said that a rape case has been registered in the police station.
