Two farmers were stabbed to death by a mentally unbalanced youth in Narsingdi. Another was injured. The accident took place at noon on Wednesday (April 6) at Sagariyapara village in the char region surrounded by the Meghna river. Seriously injured Sentu Mia has been sent to Dhaka.
Upon receiving the news, the police went to the spot, arrested the mentally unbalanced Yunus and admitted him to the Sadar Hospital. The deceased were identified as Farhad Mia, 50, son of Fazal Mia of Sagariyapara village and Ali Azgar, 65, of the same village.
According to police and villagers, Farhad Mia, son of Fazal Mia of Sagariyapara village in Charanchal of Narsingdi Sadar Upazila, was working on his farm near his house. At that time, Yunus, who was mentally unbalanced from the same village, suddenly started stabbing him with a knife. After Fazal Mia got angry, Yunus kept on beating Azgar Ali and Sentu Mia who were on the side of the road. Later, the people of the area came forward and rescued the injured. They were later taken to a local village doctor and later to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital. Upon receiving the news, Sadar Model Police went to the spot and arrested Yunus who was mentally unbalanced.
Sadar Model Police Station OC Biplob Kumar Chowdhury said Yunus, who was mentally unbalanced, was admitted to hospital after being detained. At the same time, the bodies of the deceased have been sent to the morgue for autopsy. Legal action will be taken.
Chargesheets have been issued against eight people, including district Awami League joint secretary Manjurul Alam Mohan, in a case of stabbing a police constable. The investigating officer confirmed the veracity of Sadar Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Abul Kalam Azad. He said chargesheets have been filed in the names of six persons and one person who came under investigation.
According to sources, several cadres led by Manjurul Alam Mohan, joint secretary of the district Awami League, attacked the office of the motor owners ‘group in Charmatha area of the city on February 9 at noon to take control of the Bogra district motor owners’ group. In addition to the group’s office, they also vandalized the private office of the current general secretary and panel mayor of the municipality, Aminul Islam.
The municipal councilor’s office was not spared from the attack. Police constable Ramzan Ali was seriously injured in the stabbing. The next day, three cases were registered against more than 500 people at the Sadar police station. The plaintiff in one case is Inspector Nannu Khan. One of the plaintiffs is Aminul Islam, acting president of Sadar Upazila Juba League and general secretary of Motor Owners Group. The other plaintiff is Mashiul Alam Khokon, brother of Manjurul Alam Mohan. Meanwhile, a chargesheet has been filed in the court in the case of attack on the police.
