Maulana Rafiqul Islam Madani has been arrested by the RAB for making provocative and arrogant remarks against the state.He was reportedly arrested from Netrokona at noon on Wednesday (April 8).
Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of the RAB’s law and media wing, said Rafiqul Islam had been making anti-state remarks at various times. Many of his provocative statements have gone viral recently. He has been arrested on this charge.
He said legal action was being taken against him.
Earlier on March 25, Rafiqul Islam, a ‘child speaker’, was taken into police custody from an anti-Modi procession of the Students and Youth Rights Council at Motijheel Shapla Chattar in the capital. Later released again.
On the day of the arrival of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a procession of students and youth rights council led by former VP of Daksh Nurul Haque Nur started at around 11:30 am in the Vijayanagar water tank area of the capital. More than five hundred leaders and activists were present. After the procession reached Motijheel, there was a chase with the police. At that time Rafiqul Islam was taken into their custody by the police.
Rafiqul Islam, known as a children’s speaker, lives in Netrokona. Lives in Gazipur near Dhaka. He is the vice-president of Netrokona district of Juba Jamiat, an affiliate of Ulema-e-Islam in Jamiat-e-Islami, a partner of BNP-Jamaat alliance.
Shalla Police Station OC Nazmul Haque has been suspended by the police headquarters after finding evidence of negligence in the incident of attacking and vandalizing the houses of followers of traditional religions in Noagaon of Shalla in Sunamganj.
On Tuesday (April 6) night, the OC of Shalla Police Station was suspended and the officer-in-charge of the nearby Dirai Police Station Ashraful Islam was also instructed to leave the place. He has been removed from Dirai and transferred to Moulvibazar.
Earlier, a special investigation team from the Bangladesh Police Headquarters had been working on the spot since April 3 to get more information.
When the report was submitted after knowing the details of the investigation, the police headquarters took action after the overall analysis.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Saheb Ali Pathan confirmed the matter on behalf of Sunamganj District Police along with the news of the headquarters directive.
Incidentally, a waz mahfil was held on March 15 in Dirai upazila of Sunamganj in the presence of top leaders of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh. Allama Mamunul Haque was present as a guest in this mahfil. After that, Jhumon Das, a follower of traditional religion in Noagaon of Shalla Upazila, gave an ugly and satirical status to Allama Mamunul Haque on his personal Facebook ID. Police immediately arrested Das jhumana with sticks but with incitement to religious noyagaoye attacked the next day, more than a hundred people. Fifty houses were vandalized during this time.
The victims said the attackers were followers of Mamunul Haque. However, the local independent member was accused of leading the incident.
Locals complained that there was a long-running dispute between the independent member and Jhumon over his status on Facebook, and that the independent member used the opportunity to incite Jhumon to “educate”. After the incident, 1,500 people were charged in two separate cases. 33 people were arrested. The matter is currently under consideration.
