Hefazat-e-Islam’s joint secretary general Mamunul Haque’s supporters were seriously injured in the attack in Rangunia upazila of Chittagong district. Muhibullah (54) finally succumbed to death. He died at Parkview Hospital in the city around 12:30 pm on Tuesday (April 6). SI Mojibur Rahman, in-charge of the balance investigation center, confirmed the matter.
It is learned that Hefazat leader Mamunul Haque along with women were blocked at a resort in Sonargaon of Narayanganj last Saturday (April 3) night. Hefazat-e-Islam and BNP leaders and activists staged an immediate protest procession.
Rangunia Kodala Union BNP leader from the procession. Three leaders of the local Awami League and Juba League were injured in the attack led by Yunus Moni. They are- Union Awami League leader. Muhibullah, Union Juba League President Abdul Jabbar and former General Secretary Dildar Azam Liton.
Among them, Muhibullah’s condition was critical and he was admitted to the ICU of Parkview Hospital. Doctors found hundreds of injuries on his head and body. However, the leader, who was on the verge of death, fell to his death on Tuesday night.
The deceased was identified as Muhibullah, a member of Kodala Union Awami League in Rangunia upazila.
Meanwhile, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rangunia Police Station Mahbub Milki said, “There were two separate cases of assault on Saturday night. One of the plaintiff police and the other Kodala Union Juba League President. Abdul Jabbar. Local BNP leader Younus Moni has been made the main accused in both the cases. At the same time, a total of 214 accused have been made, including 150 anonymous people, mentioning the names of 74 BNP-Jamaat leaders and activists and supporters of Hefazat. The case of the death of the injured Awami League leader will now turn into a murder case.
