The coronavirus situation is deteriorating in Bangladesh. In the meantime, the daily infection has exceeded 7,500. Even if it decreases a little sometimes, death is also increasing. However, experts are blaming a new type or form of corona behind the increase in this infection. That is the ‘African form’ of the virus. According to a recent study by the International Center for Diarrhea Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR, B), more South African variants of the coronavirus are being infected.
Between March 18 and 24, ICDDRB scientists analyzed the genome sequences of about 58 samples from corona patients, the agency said. Of these, 48, or more than 60 percent, were found in South African corona variants.
In the previous week, between 12 and 16 March, ICDDR analyzed the genome sequences of B99 corona patient samples and found 64, or more than 74 percent, South African variants.
In the first week of March, the genome sequences of about 30 samples were analyzed, but no African variant was found.
ICDDRB, a senior scientist who led the team to analyze the genome sequence. Mustafizur Rahman said on Wednesday night, “We have seen that in the third week of March, the South African variant has become more infected than the United Kingdom and other variants.”
‘We have continued genome sequence analysis of samples collected after March 24. But it is not ready yet, ‘he said.
ICDDR, B started monitoring various variants of SARS-Cove-2 in December last year in collaboration with the Institute of Pathology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) and the Department of Health (DGHS).
